Allison Rich is a US-American artist who has created a mixed-media autobiographical film called “Not Normal” documenting her experiences with endometriosis. The film combines first person narration, iPhone recordings, paintings, and archive images which form 213 collages presented on screen. At the CIRAC conference Endometriosis (R)Evolution: Making the Invisible Visible, a creative video essay entitled “‘Not Normal’ & the Need for Films about Endometriosis” was shown, through which the artists presented her own work, as well as showcasing the work of others and raising the questions of how and by whom films about endometriosis are created, discussing their outreach and value. The video essay is now online on UniTube as part of the Endo Conference video series.
The Endometriosis (R)Evolution: Making the Invisible Visible conference is part of the In/Visible Endometriosis: Menstruation, Menopause, and Narrative Medicine project funded by the Elisabeth List Fellowship Programme.
