How Applicable are Care Theories?

F. Borggrefe_care workshop

An interdisciplinary field of discourse under scrutiny

Lecture and workshop, 17-18 Oct. 2024

For over 40 years, care theories have been developing a differentiated and at the same time dazzling picture of care, which addresses and negotiates a wide variety of concepts and practices of caring, looking after, nurturing and repairing (Degeling/Hafke 2021). The discourses on care work and an ethics of care (Kohlen 2016) show how fundamentally thinking changes when care and concern are understood as central elements of social and political action (Conradi/Vosman 2016). In a cooperation between the Center for Interdisciplinary Aging and Care Research (CIRAC) at the University of Graz, the Research Focus on Aesthetics at the Zurich University of the Arts and the Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna, pre- and post-docs critically approach this field of discourse through a lecture and an interdisciplinary workshop and work on care concepts from a personal and disciplinary perspective.
