"Indigenous Storytelling in the 20th and 21st Centuries: Literature, Disability, and Age"

In her guest lecture, Dr. Nina De Bettin Padolin explores Indigenous storytelling traditions of the 20th and 21st centuries and shows how they address aging, disability, and colonial violence.

At the University of Klagenfurt, Dr. Nina De Bettin Padolin will give a guest lecture entitled “Indigenous Storytelling from the 20th and 21st Century: Literature, Disability, and Age.”

The lecture focuses on Indigenous storytelling traditions and literatures of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, examining how they address aging, disability, and colonial violence. It also analyzes how storytelling functions as a decolonial practice that preserves knowledge across generations, makes visible forms of care and relationality, and articulates resistance to settler-colonial violence.
Drawing on selected literary examples, the lecture shows how Indigenous narratives challenge dominant understandings of disability, age, and history.

The event will take place on Wednesday, 15 April 2026, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in Lecture Hall 4 at the University of Klagenfurt and online (https://classroom.aau.at/b/tri-2u2-ynj-6jx).
