What social and organisational factors prevent people with disabilities and chronic illnesses from being recognised as active contributors to research? These questions will be addressed at the public panel discussion ‘Nothing about us without us?’ Experiences with co-research in medical ethics.

The panellists include Mag. Marianne Karner; Antonia Kranzelbinder, BA MA (Disability & Diversity Studies, CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences); Dr. Alekszandra Rokvity (CIRAC, University of Graz, and European Affairs Officer at Endometriosis Austria); and Prof. Sigrid Graumann (Evangelical University of Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe). They will share their experiences of co-research from personal, academic and practical perspectives. The event will be moderated by Dr. Anna-Christina Kainradl (CIRAC, University of Graz) and PD Dr. Merle Weßel (Diversity Unit, City of Hanover).
The panel discussion forms part of the two-day workshop ‘Ethics, Disabilities and Chronic Illnesses: Perspectives in Dialogue’ organised by the AEM Working Group (15–16 October 2026). The workshop addresses ethical issues surrounding disability and chronic illness from inter- and transdisciplinary perspectives, focusing on the experiences of those affected and their families and carers. Perspectives from medical ethics, disability studies and other fields of research will engage in dialogue with perspectives from practice and self-advocacy, for example on issues of access to healthcare, social participation, and the opportunities and challenges of participatory research. The program includes presentations, parallel small-group sessions and a concluding forum.
